Going through my journey of the Lap-Band® was work but, most of all very well worth it. Starting with the doctors, their compassion is so great from their bed side manner to how they better people’s lives everyday. The staff and nurses at the doctors office and Village Specialty Surgical Center are very efficient and caring from the moment you walk through the doors.

Encouragement is the only word that I can think of to describe The Full of Hope Program and what is as done for me. It’s given me a push on a new life with my husband and children. This was a choice of mine to give myself “LIFE” and that’s what the Lap Band® has done for me.

July 7, 2010 was a life changing day for me. It was the day that I chose to have the Lap Band® procedure at Village Specialty Surgical Center, performed by Dr. Cavazos. With all the anxiety that leads up to any type of surgery, we all know the importance of choosing the best doctors and facility. That's just what I did! The care and courtesy I received from everyone at Village Specialty Surgical Center was phenomenal. Everyone was very welcoming, professional, courteous, kind, and above all, caring. They made me feel like I was their only patient that day. While I was having the procedure done, the staff not only took great care of me, but also my husband. They keep him informed of my progress, and were very accommodating. The Bariatric Patient Liaison has been a special and unexpected bonus! Her occasional and continued phone calls just to see how things are going, billing assistance, general support, and even a little goodie bag the day of surgery. Everyone made the journey so much more comfortable knowing that I'm not "doing it alone". Three months later, I was sixty-two pounds lighter, and now 9 months later one hundred fifteen pounds lighter I'm well on my way to my goal. It all started with Village Specialty Surgical Center! I wouldn't change any of my decisions. My main question is, "why didn't I do this sooner?"

I’ve struggled my whole life with my weight, like many of you. My father is a doctor, and he watched and supported me through all of the diet plans, none of which I could stick to long term. Being overweight most of my adult life, I thought I had grown comfortable with my size, but as the years went by, my body became a burden. At 345 lbs, I had developed Type II diabetes. As a result, I had to take medication four times a day and developed diabetic neuropathy in my fingers and feet. My doctors told me that any quality of life would only last for the next 8-10 years – all because of my weight. My only option was permanent weight loss. Because the LAP-BAND^® is a less invasive surgery I had a small recovery time and experienced little discomfort. And, best of all, a dramatic weight loss!
